About Us

Our Mission:

The Friends of Portland Streetcar is a volunteer, rider, and community-based organization which supports and advocates for Portland Streetcar.

We believe that Portland Streetcar is an important part of our city and regional transportation system, supporting the mobility of all citizens, and playing an important role in the development of a healthy, sustainable, and livable city. We advocate for frequent high-quality service, equity and accessibility, and the continued expansion of the streetcar system where it will best serve the people of Portland.

Our History:

The Friends of Portland Streetcar was founded by former members of the Portland Streetcar Citizens’ Advisory Committee following its disbanding in September of 2019. While we are no longer recognized as a city council group, we continue to work with Portland Streetcar, Inc, TriMet, the Portland Bureau of Transportation, as well other local and state leaders. Since 1989, we have been advocates for the Portland Streetcar system, and we remain committed to working with members of the community and city officials to deliver a streetcar system that provides the highest level of quality to its ridership and continues to serve as a model system.
